Leading the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 25, was Burr Datz. The Collierstown Presbyterian Women will hold their winter meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. This will be a planning meeting for the group’s activities during the remainder of 2024. All women in the congregation are invited to participate.

The church’s young adult group will launch a new Bible study based on Season 1 of the series “The Chosen” streaming on many platforms, including Netflix. The first meeting will be held in the fellowship hall on Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. Those interested in participating should contact Rosalea Potter for more information and to obtain study materials.

The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 7, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A time of fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Bible study. Rosalea Potter will lead the study from Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 on the Christian virtue of “Moderation.” For more information, call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325. A musical recital featuring violinist and pianist William Hughes, a senior at Southern Virginia University, will be held at the Oxford Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m.

Plans for a communitybased “Rise Against Hunger” packing day at the Effinger firehouse on Saturday, April 13, are being made. The event is being organized by the leadership of the Collierstown United Methodist Charge with the support of the community’s churches and civic organizations. Donations are being sought to purchase the food items needed.

Tickets are now on sale for the St. Patrick’s Day Dance to be held on Saturday, March 16, from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Effinger firehouse. Music will be provided by Spencer Hatcher and the Ol Son Gang. Tickets are $20 per person and may be obtained by calling (540) 460-3980. Patrons must be 21 to attend and ID is required. This fundraiser is sponsored by the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s Auxiliary.

As the celebration of Easter approaches on March 31, the community churches are providing a variety of activities and special services.
