March 6, 1974

Over 50 parents and about 20 teachers attended a meeting on school bus discipline, particularly in the Goshen area where rowdy behavior resulted in the suspension of six students and the arrest of one. - Columnist Art Buchwald spoke on a variety of topics in American society to a gathering of 1,200 at Washington and Lee University. A highlight was a satirical slide show on Watergate and other controversies associated with the Nixon Administration. - Buena Vista City Council came out in opposition to a bill that would allow Virginia Electric and Power Co. to charge municipalities the same rates for electrical services as private customers were charged.

The Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Department moved into its new station across Sycamore Avenue from the Municipal Building. - The century-old post surgeon’s house at Virginia Military Institute was torn down to make way for the expansion of VMI’s mess hall. - Approximately two dozen seasonal campers showed up at a meeting of the Buena Vista City Council to express concern over the city’s parks and recreation committee’s plan to move the location for seasonal campers from the lower campground to the upper one at Glen Maury Park.
