Twelve PM Cagers All-District

Gilbert, Kerr Named Pioneer’s Coaches Of Year

Twelve Parry McCluer High School basketball players – six girls and six boys – were awarded all-district honors last week.

Both PM head coaches were named Pioneer District coaches of the year, Adam Gilbert for the girls and Tyler Kerr for the boys, after leading their teams to district regular-season and tournament titles. Gilbert finished his 14th year of coaching, and Kerr completed his second year.

For the girls, PM junior guard Victoria Hamilton was named Pioneer District player of the year after leading the Blues with 13.7 points per game, and she was one of four PM girls selected to the all-district first team. The others were senior guards Payton Emore and Addisen Roberts and junior guard Natalie Mohler. Senior guard Tatyana Turner was chosen to the all-district second team, while sophomore guard Kayleigh Ramsey was named alldistrict honorable mention.

The Blues went 20-4 this season, going 8-0 in the Pioneer District, claiming their fourth consecutive district regular-season title and overcoming Narrows 55-52 to win their fourth straight district tournament title. After a 46-41 win over Bland County in the Region 1C quarterfinals, PM’s season concluded with a 65-34 loss to Fort Chiswell in the Region 1C semifinals.

For the boys, PM’s senior guards Landon Catlett, Evan Cook and JJ Jones were named to the all-district first team. Freshman guard Langston Cook was selected to the all-district second team, while junior guard Braedyn Houck and sophomore forward Nathan Glass were named all-district honorable mention.

The PM boys went 22-5 this season, going 10-1 in the Pioneer District, claiming the firstplace game against Narrows, last year’s district champion, before having a rematch with the Green Wave in the district finals and winning 74-61. After a 73-49 win over Galax in the Region 1C quarterfinals, the Blues’ season concluded with a 77-70 loss to George Wythe in the Region 1C semifinals.
