Collierstown

Leading the worship service at Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 3, was Burr Datz. During the offertory, the first of five offerings was collected and will be used to purchase food items needed for the Effinger community’s “Rise Against Hunger” packing day scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s Night Circle will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 7, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A time of fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Bible study. Rosalea Potter will lead the study from Ecclesiastes 2:111 on the Christian virtue of “Moderation.” For more information, call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325. All are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live from the church’s Facebook page at 7 p.m.

The Collierstown United Methodist Church’s United Women in Faith will meet on Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at the church. Delores Rhodenizer will lead the evening’s program. Plans will be finalized for a fundraising potato/chili/salad bar dinner to be held on April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal will include dessert and a choice of beverages. The cost of the meal will be by donation.

On Sunday, March 10, a musical recital featuring violinist and pianist William Hughes, a senior at SVU, will be held at the Oxford Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m.

Tickets for the St. Patrick’s Day dance to be held on Saturday, March 16, from 8 p.m. until midnight at the Effinger Fire Department are still available. They may be purchased at a cost of $20 each by calling (540) 4603980. Music will be provided by Spencer Hatcher and the Ol Son Gang. Patrons must be 21 to attend and ID is required. This fundraiser is sponsored by the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s Auxiliary.

The Effinger Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 30, at the pavilion and on the grounds of the Collierstown Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until noon. Families are invited to bring children to enjoy hunting Easter eggs and other activities. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to meet and be photographed with the children in attendance.

The Effinger Ruritan Club is sponsoring the photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny. Egg hunting and other activities will be provided by the community’s churches: Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist Church, Collierstown United Methodist Church, Collierstown Presbyterian Church, Oxford Presbyterian Church, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and the Rapps Mill Church.

Plans for the celebration of Easter by the Collierstown United Methodist charge have been made.

A Holy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. on March 28 at the Collierstown Church. On Friday, March 29, a Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. An Easter sunrise service will be held at The Seclusion at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, followed by breakfast at the Collierstown United Methodist Church at 8:15 a.m. The Easter Sunday worship service will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Collierstown Church.
