Assistant Secretary of Defense Jerry Friedman said in a speech at the annual dinner meeting of the Lexington-Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce that maintaining a strong defense force throughout the world was vital to ensuring the U.S.’s interests and objectives. - The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors took up the issue of trailers not being properly placed in the county. Dr. Malcolm Tenney of the Health Department expressed concerns that many of the trailers in the area did not have access to water or sewer. -A ribbon cutting officially opened the Domini-Bank, the new electronic banking service installed at the First National Exchange Bank on Nelson Street.

The General Assembly voted unanimously to elect Mike Irvine to fill the circuit court seat vacated by retiring Judge George E. Honts III. Gordon Saunders was approved to take the general district seat held by retiring Judge Joseph Hess.
- Responding to the objections of neighbors, the Lexington Planning Commission rejected a request for rezoning for a medical offices complex on Houston Street.
- Jennifer Anderson, executive director for Theater at Lime Kiln, announced that “Stonewall Country” would cease production after its 20th season.
