Wheeler And Floyd Inducted Into Softball Hall

Two former Buena Vista softball players, Gordy Wheeler (below, center) and the late Donald “Doley” Floyd (right) were inducted into the Virginia United States Specialty SportsAssociation (USSSA) Softball Hall of Fame on March 2 in Petersburg. With Wheeler are his son Sham (below, left) and Wayne Bartley (below, right), a former player who will be inducted next year. All three men played softball in a time when softball was the summertime king of activities for area adults, when weekend softball tournaments drew thousands of people to Buena Vista. AT TOP, Newspaper clippings, photos, jerseys and softball equipment were on display for the attendees to view. (Ronnie Coffey photos)
