The Historic Lexington Foundation purchased the Davidson-Tucker House from Lee-Jackson Memorial Inc. in order to provide capital needed for a major restoration of the Jackson House next door. - REA Magnet Wire Co. announced it had signed a contract to purchase the land, building and remaining equipment of the General Cable Corp. plant in Buena Vista, which had shut down in June 1973. - Lexington Mayor Charles F. Phillips Jr. asked the Retail Merchants Association to consider the advisability of removing parking meters from the downtown area.

Francis F. Lynn was chosen as the Buena Vista Lions Club’s 51st Citizen of the Year. - Judge George E. Honts III died at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Roanoke of an apparent brain hemorrhage. Honts had only recently announced his intention to retire from the bench in July. - Christopher Moore, the Whistle Creek boy who received a life-saving kidney from family friend Hubie Hartless, was back in school and “doing great,” according to mom Deborah Moore.
