The Effinger Ruritan Club is sponsoring a community roadside clean-up day this Saturday, March 23. Volunteers and club members are asked to assemble at the Palmer Community Center at 9 a.m. to pick up trash collection bags and reflective vests. Area residents are encouraged to join the club’s efforts by picking up trash and cleaning the roadways around their property lines, churches and other locations.
The Palmer Community Center and the Effinger Ruritan Club are seeking photographs and other historical memorabilia on the Palmer School and its contribution to the education of students living in the Buffalo and Effinger communities. Photographs of the Palmer School’s use as a gathering place for community functions would also be appreciated. To donate items, contact Effinger Ruritan Club President, Chris Cartwright, or any member of the Palmer Community Center board.
On Saturday, March 30, the Effinger Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the pavilion on the grounds of the Collierstown Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until noon. The Easter Bunny, sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club, will be on hand to meet and be photographed with the children in attendance. Families are invited to bring children to enjoy hunting Easter eggs and other activities. The community’s churches are sponsoring the event.
Union View Advent Christian Church will hold an Easter sunrise service on March 31 at 7 a.m. on the church grounds. The service will be led by Pastor Nathaniel Rutan. All in attendance are invited to stay after the service and enjoy a fellowship breakfast in the church.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church invites the community to join with the church membership on Easter Sunday, March 31, for an Easter sunrise service at the top of cemetery hill at 6:45 a.m. All are invited to enjoy a hot breakfast in the fellowship hall following the service. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held in the church sanctuary. At 11 a.m. the Easter worship service will be celebrated in the church sanctuary. Community and church members are invited to place flowers and greenery representing Christ’s resurrection on the cross located outside at the front of the church on Sunday, March 31.
The Collierstown United Methodist Charge will have a Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on March 28 at the Collierstown Church. On Friday, March 29, a Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. There will be an Easter sunrise service held at the Seclusion at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 31 followed by breakfast at the Collierstown United Methodist Church at 8:15 a.m. The Easter Sunday worship service will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Collierstown Church.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church will host a baked potato/chili/salad bar dinner at the church on Saturday, April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal will include dessert and a choice of beverages. The cost of the meal will be by donation.
The “Rise Against Hunger” packing day at the Effinger firehouse will be on Saturday, April 13. Donations totaling $4,500 are needed to purchase the food items to be packed. Those interested in volunteering with meal packing can sign up at the event’s website http://events. riseagainsthunger.org/Collierstown2024.
