The Plank Road and surrounding area mourns the passing of Jean McDaniel Moore. Jean attended Natural Bridge High School for a short period until the county redistricted the northern end of Plank Road students to Effinger High. In later years, Jean became a rural mail carrier and she told some scary stories about delivering the mail in the snow storms. This reporter enjoyed attending AARP meeting and taking Abbott bus trips with Jean. Jean passed away on Feb. 28. A memorial service was conducted March 4 at Harrison Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Gordon. She was buried at the cemetery of Broad Creek A.R. Presbyterian Church, where she was a faithful member for her entire life.

High Bridge also mourns the loss of member Lorna Whisler, who passed away March 1 at her home. A memorial service and reception will be held at High Bridge on Saturday, April 6, at 11 a.m. A complete obituary of Lorna’s interesting life may be viewed online at The News-Gazette website.

We wish to thank the Natural Bridge Ruritan Club for their work with the annual clean-up day in Rockbridge County, which was held March 16.
