Haley Took Majority In Lexington
The presumptive nominees in the presidential election were the overwhelming choices of Rockbridge area voters in primaries held March 5.
President Joe Biden garnered at least 91 percent of the vote in Democratic primaries held in Rockbridge County, Buena Vista and Lexington. Former President Donald Trump was the choice of 70 percent of voters in the county’s Republican primary and 78.5 percent of Republican primary voters in Buena Vista.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley did get a majority of votes of Republican primary voters in Lexington, collecting 56.5 percent to Trump’s 40 percent.
The combined voter turnout for the Republican and Democratic primaries stood at 21.5 percent in the county, 11.5 percent in Buena Vista and 18.07 percent in Lexington. More local voters participated in the Republican primaries than the Democratic ones.
Here are the results from the Rockbridge area primaries: Rockbridge County Republican Primary – Chris Christie, 12 (.43 percent); Ryan L. Binkley, 0; Vivek Ramaswamy, 4 (.14 percent) Donald Trump, 1,972 (70.2 percent); Ron DeSantis, 31 (1.1 percent); Nikki Haley, 790 (28.12 percent).
Buena Vista Republican Primary – Christie, 0; Binkley, 0; Ramaswamy, 2 (.48 percent); Trump, 330 (78.57 percent); DeSantis, 4 (.95 percent); Haley, 84 (20 percent).
Lexington Republican Primary – Christie, 6 (1.3 percent); Binkley, 1 (.23 percent); Ramaswamy, 1 (.23 percent);Trump, 177 (40.05 percent); DeSantis, 7 (1.58 percent); Haley, 250 (56.56 percent).
Rockbridge County Democratic primary – Marianne Williamson, 23 votes (3.19 percent); Joe Biden, 672 (93.2 percent); Dean Benson Phillips, 26 (3.61 percent) Buena Vista Democratic primary – Williamson, 4 (4.3 percent); Biden, 85 (91.4 percent); Phillips, 4 (4.3 percent) Lexington Democratic primary – Williamson, 10 (3.22 percent); Biden, 292 (93.89 percent); Phillips, 9 (2.89 percent).
