The Historic Lexington foundation assumed the management of the Stonewall Jackson Home. Meanwhile a consulting architect began a feasibility study involving architectural, historical and archeological research at the Jackson Home with funds made available through a grant from the Department of the Interior. - The energy crisis was impacting Rockbridge High School’s track team practice. The team could only practice three times a week because use of the student activity bus was restricted. -“Rehabilitation” was the winning word for Linda Morrison at the Lexington Spelling Bee. Twelve students from Lylburn Downing and Lexington High School competed in the bee held at LHS.

Citizens gathered at a town hall meeting held by Del. Ben Cline saying they wanted their taxes raised to pay for critically needed services. They spoke in favor of the state Senate’s proposed budget that would raise taxes but provide $2.2 billion in new funding for education, public safety and human services. - The area’s economic development director David Kleppinger touted Buena Vista’s planned electronic village as a broadband “highway” of high speed phone lines and wireless networks that would bring vast economic opportunities to the area. - Lexington Police Sgt. Torben Pederson and Office Gary Coleman retired from the force.
