A Tradition Continues In Downtown Lexington

It was a chilly day for the annual Palm Sunday processional in downtown Lexington this past Sunday, March 24. ABOVE, Father J. Maxwell Appiagyei of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Rev. Dr. David Cox, history professor at Southern Virginia University, lead the processional from Hopkins Green. AT LEFT, participants raise their palms as a prayer is said in Hopkins Green just prior to the processional. (Joann Ware photos)

In addition to the Rev. Cox and Father Maxwell, other participating members of the clergy were Father Samson Mamour, assistant rector of Grace Episcopal Church (far right) and Pastor McKinley Williams of First Baptist church (to the left of Father Maxwell).

Pastor Anita Mays Lucord of Trinity United Methodist Church leads the prayer in front of Lexington Presbyterian Church. She is the first female minister at Trinity in the history of the church.
