Ben Frey’s eclectic and creative paintings will be the subject of Nelson Gallery’s April show, which opens with a reception April 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. He paints large, impressively and covers many subjects, from elephants to Ferris wheels to the mountains and valleys of our county. Frey grew up in an artistic family in Maine and drew incessantly from an early age. Later creative development occurred at college in Maryland, then the Art Students League in New York and when he went to live and paint for a year in Paris. His work is a combination of mixed media and “story-telling”, and as said, often large and always captivating.
