Collierstown

Deborah Potter McCormick, 540-463-7652 The Effinger Community Easter Egg Hunt held Saturday, March 30 at the pavilion on the grounds of the Collierstown Baptist Church was a fun day enjoyed by “little and big kids” alike. Approximately 40 younger children enjoyed meeting and being photographed with the Easter Bunny. Hunting for eggs, sweet treats and good fellowship made it a wonderful day for approximately 100 children and adults.

Many thanks to the Effinger Ruritan Club and the sponsoring community’s churches (Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist Church, Collierstown Presbyterian Church, Collierstown United Methodist Church, Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Oxford Presbyterian Church, and the Rapps Mill Church) for making it a memorable day for young and old.

The Night Circle of the Collierstown Presbyterian Church will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 4, in the fellowship hall at 7 p.m. A time of fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Bible study. Frances Ruley will lead the study from I Samuel 24 on the Christian virtue of “Integrity.” For more information, call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325. All are invited to join the group in person or on Facebook Live from the church’s Facebook page at 7 p.m.

The Collierstown United Methodist Church invites everyone to enjoy a baked potato/chili/salad bar dinner at the church on Saturday, April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal will include dessert and a choice of beverages. The cost of the meal will be by donation.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church’s Cemetery Committee wants to remind families and friends of loved ones buried in the church cemetery that artificial flower arrangements, decorations, and other items need to be removed from grave sites by Saturday, April 6, to facilitate mowing of the cemetery grounds. Items remaining on the graves or ground surrounding the tombstones after April 6 will be removed by Cemetery Committee personnel. Cooperation in removing items not secured to the tombstones is greatly appreciated as they pose a safety hazard to the surrounding tombstones as well as to those mowing and maintaining the cemetery grounds.

The “Rise Against Hunger” Packing Day at the Effinger firehouse will be on Saturday, April 13. Donations totaling $4,500 are needed to purchase the food items to be packed. Those interested in volunteering with meal packing can sign up at the event’s website, http://events.riseagainsthunger. org/Collierstown2024 . Monetary donations can also be made at the website or mailed to Collierstown UMC, 3998 Collierstown Road, Lexington, VA 24450, Attn. Delores Rhodenizer-RAH.
