A baseball field at Camden Field in Buena Vista is coming back to life after sitting dormant for a long time.
Over the past month, the field has undergone steady work, thanks to Bryson Adams and MBA Construction, so that the Rockbridge Area Recreation Organization (RARO) could start using it for little league games this week.
The March newsletter from RARO stated that “a once thriving field that had long been forgotten will be back in use this spring.”
Ronnie Coffey, the former director of the Buena Vista Parks and Recreation Department, estimated that the field had not been used in at least 20 years.
Adams, a RARO board member and a 2012 Parry McCluer High School graduate, came to the field with his business, MBA Construction, removed the sod, and put dirt back in to make it into a baseball field. In late March, the Buena Vista Public Works Department met at the field and took down the goal post that sat behind second base.
In addition to little league baseball and softball, RARO Executive Director Chad Coffey said the field is “being heavily used by the community as well. I’ve seen people playing adult softball.”
He said that RARO will make sure the field is taken care of and will work on “other cosmetic things next year.” He mentioned there is a chain link on the back stop that needs to be replaced, and they’re removing overgrown grass.
