Karyn Gardner, (540) 228-2176, (540) 655-3646 [email protected]

Sending birthday wishes to Faith Baptist Church members Marlene Branch, Shelly Fitzgerald, Finley Campbell, Bob Tolley and Jaydah Johnson.

Faith Baptist Church will have a Clothes Closet on April 20 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., baptism and a special business meeting on April 21, and a men’s prayer breakfast on April 24 at 8 a.m. A song and praise service is coming up later this month on April 28 at 6 p.m.

Many thanks to the Rev. Tray Light for leading a Holy Eucharist service at St. John’s Episcopal Church this past week and to Brandall Branch for leading a morning prayer service the previous week as well as to Bert Buford and Josh Gardner for providing music. Thanks, also, to Lynn Williams for hosting coffee hour this week.

Glasgow Rescue Squad will be hosting a rabies clinic (rabies vaccination for your dog or cat) on April 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. The service is provided by Natural Bridge Animal Hospital’s Kerri McDermott, DVM and staff in cooperation with Glasgow Life Saving and First Aid Crew Inc. The cost will be $10, cash only, and will be donated to Glasgow First Aid. For any questions, call Larry Spangler at (540) 460-6903.

On April 10, Arnolds Valley resident Josh Gardner was among those recognized at the Center for Power Electronics Systems Conference at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg for being awarded a LAUNCH Proof-of-Concept Grant in FY 2024, an important step in developing technologies with start-up potential. Gardner, in association with his adviser’s efforts, is part of a team at Virginia Tech developing double-side cooled modules for electric vehicles. Josh has been a doctorate student at Virginia Tech since 2023.

My brother, Zach Brown, and I went on a road trip last week to see the total solar eclipse. Our first stop was in Point Pleasant, W.Va., to see the sites of the Silver Bridge Memorial, Riverfront Park and Flood Wall Murals, Tu-Endi-Wei State Park and the Mothman Museum and statue downtown. On Monday, April 8, we drove up to Cleveland, Ohio, to see the eclipse. Seeing the ring of light in place of the sun so vividly within the path of totality was truly an amazing experience! After the eclipse, we traveled east along Lake Erie to Mina, N.Y., to check off state number 27 on my checklist of states visited and then drove south to stay in Cumberland, Md. The next day we visited Romney, W.Va., before coming home.
