The Rockbridge County High School girls tennis team suffered a 9-0 road loss to Valley District rival Spotswood on Tuesday of last week.
RC head coach Mark Sholes said that, despite the loss, “Our team showed a lot of promise by taking several games to deuce and making it closer than the final score showed.”
It was the first match in three weeks for the Wildcats (2-2 overall, 0-2 district), while Spotswood improved to 3-0 in the district.
Sholes was most impressed by his No. 3 doubles team, Eleanor Goodhart and Addie Wright, who were losing 7-2 before starting a comeback. In the end, Spotswood’s pair held on for an 8-4 win in the closest match of the day.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play host to Turner Ashby on Friday, but the match was postponed to a date to be determined due to inclement weather. RC will continue district action at East Rockingham today before playing at Broadway on Friday. The Wildcats will then play host to East Rockingham on Tuesday. All matches are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The Parry McCluer girls (2-1 overall, 1-0 district) started a home match against Bath County on Tuesday of last week, but the match did not finish due to rain and is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, May 7. The Fighting Blues were scheduled to play host to Mountain View on Friday, but the match was postponed to a later date due to inclement weather. PM was scheduled to play at Alleghany on Monday before traveling to Nelson County yesterday.
