The Collierstown and Buffalo communities came together at the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, April 13, to pack between 7,000 and 7,500 meals to be distributed by Rise Against Hunger to people with food needs around the world.
Special thanks to all who gave monetary donations to purchase the food supplies that were packaged and to the many volunteers who worked in teams to pack the meals. Horeb United Methodist churches, the Collierstown and Oxford Presbyterian churches, the Union View Advent Christian Church, Manley Memorial Baptist Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, the Effinger Ruritan Club, and Roanoke College. Special thanks to Pastor Bill Bearden for coordinating the event and to the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department for the use of their building the meal packing and their kitchen for lunch preparations enjoyed by the volunteers.
