Lexington City Council last Thursday approved the city’s budget for the coming fiscal year and the capital investment plan for FY25–FY29.
The most significant amendment to the budget and CIP since the public hearing at Council’s April 4 meeting was the removal of the city’s portion of the funds for the construction of an auxiliary gym at Rockbridge County High School from next year’s capital investment plan.
The gym is now scheduled to be built in FY27, with the city’s share estimated to be $907,945. Construction of new bleachers at the school is still scheduled for FY25 and the city’s share of that cost is $45,143.
Tax rates for the city will remain the same in the upcoming fiscal year, but water rates from the Maury Service Authority are expected to rise, resulting in an 8 percent increase in water bills for citizens. Within the city, minimum usage will be charged at $44.15 per month and those outside the city limits on the water system will be charged $59.62 per month for minimum use.
Council member David Sigler moved to approve the budget and CIP, with Council member Chuck Smith providing the second. The motion passed in a unanimous 6-0 vote.
