RC Girls Laxers Cruise Past JF

Dahl Records 200th Draw Control

Dominating from the start, the Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team cruised to a 19-2 home win over Jefferson Forest last Wednesday in Lexington.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Wildcats (6-1), who raced to a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and were up 14-0 at halftime, consistently staying on the attack. The Wildcats slowed down a bit in the third quarter, scoring two goals to extend their lead to 16-0.

Nine seconds into the fourth quarter, Maddie Dahl won her 200th career draw control, and the Wildcats called a timeout to celebrate the accomplishment. Dahl led RC with 10 draw controls, while Anna Nye had seven. A senior midfielder, Dahl will be signing her national letter of intent to play Division III lacrosse and volleyball for Berry College in Georgia.

Jefferson Forest (2-4) managed two goals in the fourth quarter, both from Avery Mahland, to avoid the shutout in a game that ended before the sun set.

Pleased with her team’s performance, RC head coach Susan Nye said, “We’re just trying to be, when we have the opportunity, more efficient on our plays, trying to get us to move the ball quicker, every team we play. That’s the one thing that we’re paying a lot more attention to, the efficiency of our plays, like our ride and our clears. Those are the things which we’re working on every day now.” Lola Mulitalo and Halina Homiak led RC with three goals each, while Dahl and Josie Caldwell each scored twice. Scoring one goal each were nine different Wildcats: Ruby Goodhart, Nala Shearer, Anna Nye, Emma Johnson, Ciara Staton, Libba Erskine, Schuyler Coleman, Brianna Roberts and Nadia Gaydos. Anna Nye led RC with four assists, while Shearer dished out three assists.

Defensively, eight different Wildcats each collected one ground ball. Leading the way was Anna Nye with five, while Gaydos and Braelyn Polly each had three ground balls. Nye led RC with four caused turnovers, Dahl had three, and Tadara Cooper had two.

In goal for RC, Emily Humphreys kept the Cavaliers scoreless in the first half, making two saves, and Alyssa Hunter had a solid second half.

Today, Wednesday, the Wildcats will travel to Roanoke to play at Patrick Henry in Roanoke, and they’ll play host to Franklin County on Monday, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 on both nights.
