The Rockbridge County High School girls soccer game earned its fourth win in five games with a 3-1 road victory over Staunton on Thursday night, while the RC boys suffered a 5-0 home loss to Staunton.
In the girls’ game, Madelyn Jones led the Wildcats (4-5-0) with two goals, and teammate Lucy Boller-Pinkham scored one goal at Staunton (5-4-2).
The RC boys (1-8-0) fell behind 2-0 in the first half, and held the Storm (10-1-1) scoreless for most of the second half, with strong goalkeeping by Eliot McDonald, backed up by extra pressure from RC’s defense. However, Staunton scored three goals in the final 17 minutes, on a header, a kick and a penalty shot.
Both the RC boys and girls will return to Valley District play against Spotswood on Friday, with the girls at home and the boys at Spotswood, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m.
