A wildfire near Natural Bridge Station last week was contained to 36 acres by state and federal fire crews.
The Glasgow Fire Department and Rockbridge County Fire and Rescue responded to a call about the fire at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Rockbridge Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Kevin Moore.
The fire was to the west of Wert Faulkner Highway (Va. 130) across from the Natural Bridge Industrial Park, off of Clarkstown Road.
The fire was in rugged terrain and could not be accessed by firetrucks, so local crews handed the incident over to the Virginia Department of Forestry.
Firefighters with the VDOF and the USDA Forest Service worked throughout the day on Wednesday creating fire lines, and reported full containment on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Cory Swift, spokesperson for the VDOF, some personnel remained on scene Thursday to monitor the area and prevent any re-ignitions.
Swift said that officials have determined that the fire was manmade.
Tony McFaddin, chief deputy of the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, said the fire is under investigation.
