May 1, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I grew up my entire life, like so many others, with Rockbridge County being my home. My parents own property 1/8 mile from the Hamiltons’ property where we spend many weekends.
I agree that Irish Creek can be dangerous with narrow roads; however, it doesn’t stop the cyclists, fisherman and hunters from visiting the area and doing what they enjoy. Just a few weeks ago, over 40 cars were parked alongside of t he r oad w ith p eople fi shing, some stopped in the road talking to others. The proposed venue, would never have people alongside of the road, much less have people stopped in the middle of the road, making conditions even more dangerous for drivers.
Noise is a concern, along with alcohol being served, at the venue, which would be monitored by the Hamiltons. I’ve worked catering jobs with the Hamiltons at several wedding venues inside and out of Rockbridge County. Events at these venues are not wild or loud. The lights are always low (at some we had to even add extra lightening so we could see to serve food).
Another concern was trash, anyone who has ever been to any of the properties that the Hamiltons own would know that would never be an issue. Their properties are always well-maintained with grass being mowed, trash being picked up and improvements constantly being made if needed.
I realize no one likes change and everyone has a right to voice their concerns. This is a family that has worked hard to not only improve their family’s lives but our community. Buena Vista is home to many of their own businesses; please go and look at those properties. As you come into Glasgow, they transformed a building that was left vacant for years and the community looks so much better coming into town. I hope they are given the same opportunity to continue to grow as they seek approval for their venue on Irish Creek. MICHELE STATON Buena Vista
