Allen John "AJ" Talbert Jr., 37, died Feb. 1

 

Allen John “AJ” Talbert Jr., 37, passed away Feb. 1, 2023, in Lexington.

He was born Nov. 4, 1985, in Richmond to his biological parents, Allen John Talbert Sr. and Mary Jackson (Jordan) and adoptive parents, Janice Bass and the late Wayne Bass.

AJ was a devoted member of the Kerrs Creek Baptist Church. He was employed by Travel Centers of America, where he was a devoted mechanic for almost 10 years.

Surviving is his wife of almost 10 years, Nancy Marie Talbert (McCaleb); mother, Janice Bass; brothers, Travis Bass and wife Autumn, Douglas Bass, and Edward Kain and wife Jessica; sister, Amanda Strumb McCaleb; in-laws, Thomas and Bonnie McCaleb; sister-in-law, Christinia Rowsey and husband Lance; five nieces, Maddisen, Makayla, Grace, Abigail and Adalyn; nephews, Joseph, David and TJ. He was a friend to many and a stranger to no one.

AJ was an avid race fan and a huge supporter for his favorite driver, Chase Elliott, who drives the no. 9. He found joy in kayaking and fishing, camping and spending a lot of time with family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. at Kerrs Creek Baptist Church. A meal will be served after the service in honor of AJ with all his favorite meals. Pastor Bryan Volpe will be officiating and burial to follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Kerrs Creek Baptist Church, 66 Franks Lane, Lexington, VA 24450, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and Mental Health Foundation.
