Madelyn Jones' hat trick propelled the Rockbridge County High School girls soccer team to a 4-0 Valley District win over Broadway on a rainy Senior Night in Lexington.
Jones scored midway through the first half and twice in the opening 10 minutes of the second period as the Wildcats (6-8-0, 5-6-0 Valley) completed a season sweep of the Gobblers (2-10-2, 1-8-1). Emily Jones added a late goal for RC, while Sophia Perlozzo made seven saves.
Morgan Widner also logged seven stops in goal for Broadway.
Madelyn Jones opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, spinning off a defender about 40 yards from the byline and tucking in a cool finish on a breakaway chance.
The junior playmaker, who missed last week's action due to injury, returned with a vengeance in Tuesday's game, running circles around the Gobblers' defense for most of the night.
She gave the Wildcats firm control of the contest with two more markers early in the second half. Just over a minute in, her long shot caromed off the hands of Widner, hit the crossbar and deflected in off of the Broadway keeper. Roughly eight minutes later, she made a lengthy run into the 18-yard box, snuck past two defenders and completed her hat trick.
Just six minutes from time, Madelyn Jones forced another save out of Widner, but Emily Jones was there for the tap-in to finish off the scoring.
Shortly after the varsity contest concluded, RC honored its four seniors: Perlozzo, Nellie Orrison, Sophie Vaught and Faith Walker.
The Wildcats are slated to visit East Rockingham for a Valley match on Thursday. Action starts with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
