Woods Creek Run Supports Local Youths

Woods Creek Run Supports Local Youths

The sixth annual Woods Creek Run 4 the Kids benefit race welcomed 69 participants on Saturday morning, raising funds to cover intensive therapy costs for two local youths with cerebral palsy, 8-year-old Riven Welch and 14-year-old Alyssa Cornwell. The moderately hilly 4-mile race started and ended at Waddell Elementary School, going on the Woods Creek Trail to the historic Miller House Museum at Jordans Point and back. Winning the race was Sam Allen (second row from bottom, far left), finishing in a course-record time of 24:41.65. Providing entertainment after the race was the band So Diverse (at right). A story will be in an upcoming newspaper. For full results, visit www.runroanoke.com. (Stephanie Mikels Blevins photos)
