W&L Women Advance

The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 17-7 home win over Rhodes College in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday afternoon at Alston Parker Watt Field in Lexington.

The Generals (17-3), who earned a bye in the first round, were coming off winning their 14th consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference trophy the previous weekend.

Alex Petras led W&L with four goals.

Claytor All-Conference

Southern Virginia University sophomore Katie Claytor, a 2022 Parry McCluer High School graduate, secured USA South All-Conference First Team honors for the second consecutive year.

Claytor, a standout shortstop for the Knights, delivered another impressive season following her Rookie of the Year accolades last year. She exhibited significant improvement, boasting a slash line of .360/.393/.630 while also ranking third in the conference for home runs with six. Claytor led the team in RBIs, OPS, and SLG%.

Claytor was one of five SVU players who earned all-conference honors.
