The 2024 season of Hikers Dinners at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Glasgow began on Monday, May 6. This year’s first dinner served 21 hikers traveling the Appalachian Trail from all over the U.S., as well as one hiker from Kuwait and one from New Zealand. The Rev. Dr. Bob Copenhaver also stopped by to play his bagpipes for the hikers. Church member Bruce Skillicorn did sketches of some of the hikers. The dinner consisted of meat and no-meat pasta, chicken legs, salad, bread, fruit, ice cream, cookies, brownies, cinnamon rolls, tea, lemonade and water, all of which was provided by St. John’s congregants. The dinners will be on Monday nights beginning at 6 through the end of June and are free to anyone who wishes to attend and listen to some of the stories the hikers provide about their journey.
