Former W&L Student Sentenced For Rape
Ricardo Vergara, a former Washington and Lee University student, was sentenced in Rockbridge County Circuit Court last month for raping another university student last January.
Vergara will serve a six-year sentence for one felony count of rape He was sentenced to 24 years in prison with 18 years suspended. Upon his release he will be on probation for five years, will have to register as a sex offender and refrain from contacting the victim.
Vergara was arrested on Feb. 26, 2023, by the Lexington Police Department following an investigation into a complaint by the victim.
In addition to rape, he was charged with another felony, object sexual penetration, and one misdemeanor, sexual battery. Those charges were dropped as part of a plea deal. Vergara entered his guilty plea in circuit court on Dec. 13, 2023
