Four Rockbridge County High School runners, three girls and one boy, advanced to the Region 3C meet with their performances at the Valley District meet last Wednesday at East Rockingham High School in Elkton.
The top six individuals and top three relays, as well as those qualifying by time or distance, advanced. For qualifying, athletes from Harrisonburg and William Monroe were removed from the results since those schools are in different regionals than the rest of the Valley District schools.
Leading the RC girls was freshman Celia Jones, placing fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.7 seconds and finishing sixth in the 100meter hurdles in 18.74.
Freshman Emily Carroll qualified in two races, placing seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.44 seconds and finishing eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.12. Also advancing was freshman Abby Harding, placing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.67 seconds and coming in 10th in the 100-meter dash in 14.54.
Advancing for the RC boys was senior Konner Orebaugh, placing 12th in the 200-meter dash in 24.71.
In the team standings, the RC girls scored seven points to place seventh of seven teams. The RC boys did not score any points.
Turner Ashby won the girls’ meet with 135 points, while East Rockingham (105) placed second, and Spotswood (98) finished third. Completing the standings were Harrisonburg (62), Broadway (60), William Monroe (48) and RC (7).
Harrisonburg won the boys’ meet with 159 points, while ER (124) placed second, and Broadway (105) came in third. Rounding out the standings were Spotswood (55), TA (64) and WM (5).
The Region 3C meet will take place on Thursday at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, starting at 11 a.m. From the regional the top four individuals, as well as those qualified by distance and time, will advance to the Class 1 state meet, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 31 and June 1, at Liberty University.
