Teams Fall In Monday Action

In high school playoff action on Monday, both the Parry McCluer baseball and softball teams lost in the Pioneer District finals, while the Rockbridge County boys tennis team and the PM girls tennis team bowed out in the regional quarterfinals.

The RC girls soccer team, meanwhile, found out it will advance to the Region 3C tournament, as the eighth seed, and will play at topseeded Western Albemarle tonight, Wednesday, at 7:30.

The top-seeded PM baseball team made a valiant effort to trim an 11-run deficit in the sixth inning against second-seeded Narrows, but the Green Wave held on for a 16-12 road win. The Fighting Blues are scheduled to play host to Giles, the fourth seed from the Mountain Empire District, on Thursday, with the game time to be determined.

On the softball field, the topseeded Blues found themselves in a back-and-forth battle against second-seeded Eastern Montgomery, with the Mustangs dealing PM a 9-7 loss. The Blues will play host for a Region 1C quarterfinal game on Thursday, with the game time and opponent still to be determined.

The PM girls tennis team (9-5, 4-2) concluded the team portion of its season with a 5-2 home loss to Grayson County in the Region 1C quarterfinals at the SVU courts. PM senior Addisen Roberts, the Pioneer District singles champion, will compete in the Region 1C singles tournament on Monday at Auburn. On Tuesday, she’ll team up with junior Macy Shafer in the Region 1C doubles tournament, also at Auburn.

The RC boys tennis team (10-7, 5-5) wrapped up the team portion of its season with a 6-0 loss in the Region 3C quarterfinals at Liberty Christian Academy. Juniors Nic Faulds and Nic Vargas, the Valley District doubles champions, will compete in the Region 3C doubles tournament on Tuesday at Wilson Memorial High School. Vargas will also compete in the regional singles tournament the same day.
