The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its May 18 barbecue chicken sales event. The tremendous community support of the event made the barbecue a sell out! Proceeds from the event will be used to serve the greater Effinger community and its families.
On Sunday, May 19, Burr Datz led the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church as the congregation celebrated Pentecost by wearing red and giving to the Pentecost Offering in support of children and youth activities. The church family also welcomed three young people from the congregation into membership during the 11 a.m. worship hour upon profession of faith. Josie Caldwell, Morgan Martin and Chase Pooley were recognized and presented with a certificate of membership.
Also, during the worship hour three high school seniors who will be graduating from Rockbridge County High School on May 23 were recognized by the Presbyterian Women and presented with a Bible. Cullen Gualtieri, Ben Tomlin and John Buren were congratulated for their achievement.
The Presbyterian Women hosted a lemonade-on-the-lawn reception and time of fellowship following the worship service honoring all five young people and their families.
The annual community Memorial Day Service will be held on Sunday, May 26, at 12:30 p.m. on top of the cemetery hill at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The service will remember those who have served in the military and are buried in the church cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the same time in the church sanctuary.
Members and friends of the Union View Advent Christian Church are reminded of the annual worship service and church picnic at Lake Robertson on Sunday, June 9. Worship will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch and time of fellowship.
Plans for vacation Bible school for the Buffalo and Collierstown communities are being finalized for the week of June 9-14 at the Palmer Community Center. VBS will run from 5:45 to 8 nightly with classes offered for all ages. This year’s theme is “Mystery Island: Tracking Down the One True God.” A meal will be provided each evening.
