The Rockbridge County School Board has approved a line item budget for fiscal year 2025.
The $38 million budget is about 5 percent higher than the current year’s budget of $36.2 million.
The school system received $583,119 in additional local funding for next year and an additional $1.35 million in state funding.
“We’re grateful to all of our delegates, all of our state senators and our local Board of Supervisors for working so hard and putting education first in Rockbridge County,” said Superintendent Phillip Thompson.
In this budget, the district has prioritized salary increases for teachers and staff, as well as absorbing rising health care costs.
The School Board will give a 4 % raise for all teachers and staff and funded the additional cost for health insurance without passing any of it to the employees.
The largest spending category in the approved 2024/25 budget is instruction, at a projected $27,326,930, followed by administration and health at a projected $2,976,805.
Student transport, operations and maintenance, facilities, and technology consume the rest of the budget. This budget was unanimously approved by the Rockbridge County School Board at its May 14 meeting.
