A Lexington man served as the guest speaker at the 30th Memorial Day Celebration sponsored by the J.E.B. Stuart Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy at Thornrose Cemetery in Richmond, a burial ground for some 4,500 Confederate soldiers.
Dr. Paul Franklin Stonewall Jackson Gillespie, an attorneyturned- minister, now retired, spoke on Confederate Gen. T.J. “Stonewall” Jackson at the event. He had had name legally changed to include “Stonewall Jackson” in it.
UDC Memorial Day Chairman Carol King presented the speaker with a reproduction Civil War quilt and a rare King James Bible in appreciation.
