Cline Voted Against Ukraine Funding

May 30, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: In March my wife and I visited New Zealand. They love Americans there, appreciate our Marines landing on their shores in 1942 to save this great country, and it is a truly wonderful country.

One question New Zealanders kept asking me was, “Are we going to hang out Ukraine to dry?”

Now, in May we have the answer. Our Congressman Ben Cline voted against money for Ukraine. Democrats led by Joe Biden came to Ukraine’s rescue after many delays by Republicans even to bring this to a vote in the House of Representatives. A majority of Republicans voted against funding Ukraine, 112 nays and only 101 yeas. However, Democrats voted 210 to zero to support Ukraine. (See https:// clerk.house.gov/Votes/2024151.)

Why would Republicans hold up the vote to support our ally Ukraine when over 310 of our nation’s Congresspersons, a huge majority, were ready to support funding for Ukraine months ago? Cline’s “nay” vote represents a strong reason to vote for a real military veteran (24 years of service) running in the 6th Congressional District for Congress, Ken Mitchell. Ben Cline is neither a veteran nor someone who cared enough about Ukraine to vote to support this future NATO partner. HERB RUBENSTEIN Lexington
