On Sunday, June 2, the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church was led by Burr Datz. The musical accompaniment for the service was provided by Cathy Badalamenti. During the opening announcements Gage Clayton Kelly was recognized as the recipient of a merit scholarship from the Effinger Ruritan Club’s Nelson W. Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kelly is a third-year dairy science major at Virginia Tech and the son of Mike and Jennifer Kelly. Roger Lees of the Effinger Ruritan Club made the presentation that included a certificate of merit.
Members and friends of the Union View Advent Christian Church will hold their worship service at Lake Robertson on Sunday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. A traditional summer picnic will follow the service. Members are asked to bring friends, and several covered-dishes to share.
The “Mystery Island” Vacation Bible School begins on Sunday, June 9 at 5:45 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center. The community’s churches will host VBS at the Palmer Community Center from 5:45 to 8 p.m. nightly the week of June 9-14. VBS has classes available for all ages and adults. Supper will be provided nightly. Families and area residents are invited to come and enjoy Bible study, crafts, recreation and fellowship with friends and neighbors. Register by scanning the QR code found on the VBS flyers, come early before VBS begins at 5:45 p.m., or contact one of the sponsoring churches: Union View Advent Christian Church, Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and the Rapps Mill Church.
The Collierstown United Methodist Church’s United Women in Faith will meet on Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m. at the church. All women of the church are invited to attend.
On Sunday, June 30, the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown United Methodist Church will be led by the laity. Following the service there will be a covered-dish luncheon honoring the Rev. and Mrs. Bill Bearden. Bearden is retiring as the pastor of the Collierstown United Methodist Charge where he has faithfully served as minister to the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb congregations and the surrounding communities.
