High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 Summer worship hours continue as we begin service at 10 a.m. at High Bridge Presbyterian Church. Deacons and volunteers will serve “lemonade on the lawn” after church throughout the summer. “Noisy can” offering and “wee church” is rescheduled for June 16. We are taking a break from Sunday school classes this summer.

The afternoon circle meets Tuesday, June 11, with Becky Hannah at 1 p.m.

Natural Bridge Station has a new business in the same location as the old milk bar near Natural Bridge Elementary School. The Blue Ridge Deli will feature subs, sandwiches and fresh meats. Please like them on Facebook.

Power outages due to a recent area storm lasted for 32 hours in Stoner Holler and about as long on Plank Road.

The Rev. Steve Willis conducted a graveside service at High Bridge for William Duff on Saturday, May 25. William was the son of William “Bill” and Carmen Duff. William was the brother of Polina, Gene, Eddie and Brenda. After the service, the family gathered at their home place for a time of sharing memories and food.

A recent article in this newpaper featured Joan Spangler, who passed away on May 13. Joan and her late husband, James, lived in Glasgow for many years. She was a member of the class of 1954 at Natural Bridge High School.

High Bridge’s Fourth of July picnic will feature special musical guest Col. John Brodie, who is retired from Virginia Military Institute.

The Natural Bridge/Glasgow food pantry will open on Saturday, June 8, from 9 to 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned meats for the food pantry during the month of June.
