VPAS Art Workshop, Caregiver Group Offered

As a caregiver for someone living with cognitive or other health issues, it can be hard to find time for the support you need.

Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) is offering an opportunity for your loved one to participate in Opening Minds Through Art, an award-winning abstract art program, while you engage with other caregivers.

Opening Minds Through Art is a one-on-one activity led by a trained, compassionate volunteer.

The Caregiver Support Group provides resources, tips, ideas, and a safe outlet for sharing of feelings.

Sessions will be offered at Maury River Senior Services concurrently on the following dates: The first Tuesday of each month: July 2, Aug. 6, Sept. 3, Oct. 1, Nov. 5, Dec. 3 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

To register for any or all sessions, visit vpas.info/ dementia-awareness or call Laynee Knick at Maury River Senior Services: 540261-7474.

Volunteers are needed for these sessions. Volunteers are fully guided by the OMA facilitator throughout each art project, and all levels of artistic ability are welcomed. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have an interest in art, and be comfortable working with older adults living with dementia or other cognitive concerns. Once volunteers are trained, they may be chosen for future OMA sessions without any additional training needed. For more information about volunteering, contact Kathy Guisewite at (540) 615-5341.
