Feb. 6, 2023 Editor, The News-Gazette: A lot of false information is being made against Congressman Ben Cline in an apparent organized letter to the editor campaign.
A writer claimed the 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) were to replace retiring employees. The IRS currently employs 93,654 people and projects only just over 19,700 will be retiring over five years!
These new employees will make the IRS even larger than the entire Department of Justice which has only around 115,000 employees. That includes all FBI, ATF, Drug Enforce, Marshall Service, Civil Right, Anti-Trust, and Environment and Natural Resources, National Security personnel and U.S. Attorneys employees!
The writer claimed the new agents would only audit people making over $400,000 - less than 2 percent of the total taxpayers. This claim has been debunked and came about by Biden’s false claim his administration would not raise taxes on those earning less than $400,000. (Sources — IRS and Justice Department) This is why Republicans are questioning this expenditure.
He also asked why Cline was “silent” on the Republican Party voting to increase oil exports between 2016 and 2019. Probably because Cline was not elected to Congress until 2018 and taking office in 2019! H ad he been i n office, he probably would have supported the measure too because America was exporting surplus oil beyond those needed domestically. This was back when America was energy independent.
The writer questioned Cline’s vote on the issue of what happens to babies surviving a fail abortion, claiming no babies live after a failed abortion. This is false and surprising that the writer does not remember the infamous radio interview by former Gov. Dr. Northam about such cases. How the baby is kept “comfortable” while the baby’s fate is decided!
