June 10, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I have written often on specific issues in an effort to encourage readers of this paper to vote for President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Sen. Tim Kaine, and Virginia 6th District candidate Ken Mitchell.
Today I’m writing — out of a sense of duty, conviction, and fatigue — to state simply that we have to keep voting for the candidates who are committed to doing the greatest good for the most people. These are the candidates who care about our nation’s and our region’s infrastructure, protect access to health care, understand we must continue to fight for civil rights, and value basic and longstanding democratic principles. These are the candidates who place their work for others before their own gain. They recognize imperfect systems and solutions and strive to perfect them. They seek leadership positions not to gain power but to forge coalitions for collective decisionmaking.
For these reasons and more, I’ll be voting for Biden, Harris, Kaine, and Mitchell in November. ELLEN MAYOCK Lexington
