June 7, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: Working people just want their families to be safe, and law enforcement is a critical part of keeping us safe. When we feel threatened, it is local police that we call, and they take great personal risk to maintain our safety.
The 2021 Stimulus Bill included $350 billion for state and local governments to increase funding of police departments and provide them with the resources and training they need to protect our communities. Although Ben Cline voted against this bill, we have all benefited. Under the Biden administration, national violent crime rates fell by 12% last year, the greatest decline on record, after a pandemic high.
The president is also touting a plan to invest another $37 billion in crime prevention, but Republican are stalling this bill to avoid handing him an election year victory. President Biden and the Democratic ticket demonstrate meaningful appreciation and support of law enforcement, and are the true law and order choice in this year’s elections. DAPHNE RAZ Lexington
