Eight PM Players All-Region

Eight Parry McCluer High School athletes – four softball players and four baseball players – received all-region recognition last week.

For the PM softball team, senior shortstop Payton Emore was named Region 1C player of the year and was selected to the all-region first team. Three Blues were named to the all-region second team: senior catcher Autumn Mundy, junior pitcher Olivia Julian and junior center fielder Logan Vest.

Last month, Emore, PM’s female athlete of the year, signed her national letter of intent to continue her academic and softball career at Bryant & Stratton College, a junior college in Virginia Beach, and Mundy later committed to join her on the team.

Under the direction of 10th-year head coach Troy Clark, the Blues went 9-9 overall, going 6-1 in the Pioneer District to win the district regular-season title. The Blues, who had beaten Eastern Montgomery 8-3 in the first-place game to determine the regular-season district champion, lost to Eastern Montgomery 9-7 in the Pioneer District finals before concluding their season with a 10-1 loss to Giles in the Region 1C quarterfinals.

The honorees for the PM baseball team were senior center fielder Tanner Coleman, junior second baseman Brayden Holdren, junior pitcher Braedyn Houck and senior catcher Aaron Pruett.

Guided by seventh-year head coach Bryan Loy, the Blues went 13-7 overall and 9-1 in the Pioneer District, winning the district regularseason title before falling at home against Narrows 16-12 in the district championship game. The Blues concluded their season with a 9-0 home loss to Giles in the Region 1C quarterfinals.
