‘Whitewater Ventures’Author Giving Talk
Wickliffe W. Walker, 1972 Olympic canoe slalom racer, career army lieutenant colonel, and lifelong whitewater paddler, will talk about his 2023 book, “Torrents As Yet Unknown: Daring Whitewater Ventures into the World’s Great River Gorges,” at Rockbridge Regional Library on Tuesday, June 18, at 6 p.m.
Walker traveled the world to interview paddlers and research available accounts to document pioneering whitewater adventurers and their experiences with several technically treacherous and remote rivers around the world, such as the Indus and Orinoco. Teams were often from distant locales, including Poland and Czechoslovakia, and from where travel was often unsponsored and resources were few.
The library will feature a display of some of the illustrations from the book by artist Kim Abney.
The book is available in the library collection for checkout or hold. Walker will sign personal copies after the program.
