Rachel Clark, (630)
Thank you to everyone who helped with Vacation Bible School at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church.
So many wonderful volunteers made it an amazing week. From kitchen helpers to craft guides, from activities coordinators to team helpers, from musicians to teachers, everyone gave their time and energy to show these children the love of Jesus. And, we had a lot of fun!
A big thanks to the “Pineapple Band” with Calvin Clark on guitar, Maddie David on saxophone and Cordelia Clark on drum who provided the theme song music.
We had a lovely service of worship on Sunday, filled with a variety of music. Thank you to all who shared their gifts: Laura Hotinger and Dianne Swink, Martha LaRocca and Vicki Hodges on flutes, choir, VBS kids and the Clarks, Ray and Joann Blouin, Karen Duff, Tim Hodges, Calvin Clark and Fred and Alanna Conner.
Thank you to everyone who helped with the lunch today! It was great to have a time of food and fellowship after worship.
We are so proud of Alana Conner and celebrate with her that in July she will have worked at McDonalds for seven years! It is also Camp Joy week in July, and we pray that Alana will have a great week.
Donald Hotinger’s aunt Jean recently celebrated her 95th birthday.
If you ordered a church Tshirt, they can be picked up in the library. A $10 donation towards the cost of the shirts is appreciated.
Remember that we will have 10 a.m. worship throughout the rest of the summer. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9 a.m.
The Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club met at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church on May 21.
Our guests were Sheriff Steve Funkhouser and Majors Gary and Denise Stewart from the Salvation Army.
Sheriff Funkhouser thanked the club for their donation to the Project Lifesaver Project. It is a Virginia-based company. They make bracelets with a transmitter to track someone that wanders or is lost.
Major Gary talked about the Salvation Army. He has been with them for 16 years. They serve Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt, Highland, Rockbridge counties, Buena Vista and Lexington since 1926. They have an office in Covington. In 2023, 1,714 people were served through Social Services programs, 173 families received food from the food pantry, 1,793 neighbors helped with clothing or furniture, 118 families were assisted at Christmas, 53 children attended Vacation Bible School, 37 volunteers provided 955 hours of service to the Salvation Army.
Congratulations to our scholarship winners Kayla Potter and Emma Woody.
Dianne Swink, Natural Bridge District governor and Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club member, presented awards to Felicia Bush, treasurer, and Janet Drake, secretary, for their outstanding service to the club.
John Burleson asked members to remember Memorial Day and those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can have our freedoms. June 6 was the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The club will have its chuckwagon at the Balloons Over Rockbridge Event on July 6 and July 7. Come have one of our famous burgers.
The Ruritan Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, Aug. 30, at the Lexington Golf and Country Club.
Our next club meeting will be held at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church at 6:30 at the pavilion. Bring a salad, vegetable or both. Our scholarship winners and their families will join us.
