The members of First Baptist Church of Lexington are inviting area residents to celebrate African American Heritage Month with them as they hear from guest speakers during the 11 a.m. worship service over the next three weeks.
Helping to put a spotlight on African American history will be Dr. Michael Hill of the Delaney Center at Washington and Lee University on Feb. 12; Maria Quillin, retired teacher with Rockbridge County Public Schools on Feb. 19; and Eric Wilson with the Rockbridge Historical Society on Feb. 26.
First Baptist Church is the oldest independent African American congregation in the area, dating back to 1867. The church is located at 103 N. Main St. in downtown Lexington with the Rev. McKinley A. Williams, pastor. For more information, call (540) 463-4854.
