Agency Marking 40 Years Of Service

June 12, 2024

Editor, The News-Gazette: On June 8, I had the privilege of attending the 40th anniversary celebration of ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, formerly known as Rockbridge Area Hospice. For four decades, this remarkable local nonprofit organization has been providing unparalleled care and support to individuals and families facing serious illness or end-of-life care needs.

Founded in 1984 as Rockbridge Area Hospice and guided by principles of empathy and integrity, the organization began its journey as a local hospice provider serving the Rockbridge County area. Over time, as the need for compassionate care expanded beyond hospice services and across geographical boundaries, the organization evolved into ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, broadening its scope to offer a comprehensive range of health care services to a wider community.

At the heart of ConnectionsPlus’ success is its team of dedicated professionals, volunteers, and community partners who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those they serve. Their compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence are truly inspiring, and make all the difference to their patients and patients’ families.

During the anniversary celebration, it was evident that ConnectionsPlus has touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on our community. From the heartfelt testimonials shared by patients and families to the recognition of the organization’s 5 star rating by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the event was a powerful testament to the impact of ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice in our community, and the power of neighbors helping neighbors.

As I reflect on the remarkable journey of ConnectionsPlus over the past four decades, I am reminded of the importance of compassion, dignity, and community in health care. I am deeply grateful for the invaluable contributions of ConnectionsPlus to our community over the last 40 years, and to the community members and businesses who have supported it. KIM CONNOLLY ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice board president Rockbridge County
