‘Vote For A Positive Candidate’

June 14, 2024

Editor, The News-Gazette:

In the November election for U.S. president, vote for a positive candidate, not the negative one. Here are some differences between the incumbent, Democrat Joseph Biden, and the presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

Biden wants to strengthen our democracy. Trump wants to be a dictator.

Biden works for the American people. Trump works mostly for himself and his loyalists.

Biden believes in women’s reproductive rights, which are human rights. Trump has talked of a national abortion ban. Women suffer already from severe state anti-abortion laws.

Biden works for a united America. Trump will keep beating the white supremacist drum that divides America.

Biden observes the law. Trump is a convicted felon, and faces more court hearings. No one is above the law.

Biden became president lawfully, with plenty of evidence to support it. Trump incited a coup against the 2020 vote count. Many of his MAGA followers who killed and injured people, and damaged property in the 2021 U.S. Capitol attack have been jailed or fined, a fact we need to remember.

Biden will work to strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and the checks and balances to keep the executive, justice and Supreme Court accountable under the U.S. Constitution. Trump will want to replace executive and justice employees with his loyalists. He has already politicized the Supreme Court.

Biden is strong for our NATO alliance. We are helping Ukraine fight Russia with NATO help. Trump prefers to befriend Russia’s Vladimir Putin and other dictators. Trump’s nationalist desires would isolate us from global participation.

Biden believes in the diversity of America’s people. Trump’s racist and misogynist views do not recognize the reality of our multi-racial and national population.

Biden does not have to shout to be heard; he gets the point across with reason and governs with dignity. Trump shouts retribution against his opponents if elected president.

Recently Trump back-tracked some of his ideas, but too late. He’s a bully who will continue his “strong man” role. A president set on vengeance will not respect “Liberty and Justice for All.” SUSAN ALLEN Rockbridge County
