Woman’s Club Announces Writing Winners

The Lexington Woman’s Club has announced the firstplace winners in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ (GFWC) Shenandoah District Student Writing Contest and in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ Virginia State Student Writing Contest.

First-place winners in the district advanced to the state contest, and first-place winners on the state level have advanced to the GFWC National Writing Contest. Winners of this national contest will be announced later in the summer.

Grades K-2

Short story: Awards of first place in the Shenandoah District and first place in the state of Virginia go to “Dog and Bear” by Patrick Booher, a student at Rockbridge Christian Academy.

Grades 3-5

Poetry: Awards of first place in the Shenandoah District and first place in the state of Virginia go to the poem “When Day Becomes Night” by Rose Redfern, a student at Harrington Waddell Elementary School.

Short story: Awards of first place in the Shenandoah District and first place in the state of Virginia go to the story “Long Nights at Work” by Olivia Repair, a student at Mountain View Elementary School.

Grades 6-8

Poetry: Awards of first place in the Shenandoah District and first place in the state of Virginia go to “My Fishing Trip” by Camden Steele, a student at Rockbridge Christian Academy.

OLIVIA REPAIR won a first place in the district General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ writing contest and a first place in the statewide contest for her short story. She is also congratulated by Mary Dugan.
