PM Boys Earn District Sweep Over Bath County, win 68-42

The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won a Pioneer District sweep, and their 14th game of the season, with a 68-42 victory over Bath County on Tuesday night. It was senior night at Parry McCluer, and the Blues honored John Snider and Isaac Griffin.

In the first quarter of the game, the Blues earned their first points off two Brayden Houck free throws and a steal-and-score from Landon Catlett. Parry McCluer gained a 17 point lead before Bath County scored their first points in the final seconds of the quarter to make the score 17-3.

Bath County scored the first points of the second quarter but were unable to keep up with the Blues who continued to score and make their lead 26-4. The Chargers only managed ten more points before halftime while Parry McCluer continued their offensive hot streak to make the score line 37-14 at the end of the second quarter.

Coming out of halftime, the Blues kept the same momentum that they started the game with. In the first minute of the second half, Landon Catlett scored a three pointer to help extend the PM lead. The Blues outscored Bath County 18-9 in the third quarter, and maintained a steady lead of 55-23.

While Bath County did manage to find 19 points in the final quarter of the game, they were not able to catch the Blues who finished the game with a 68-42 win.

Evan Cook and Garrett Burton both led the Blues with 13 points each. John Snider had 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double double on the night.

The Blues will play again on Thursday, February 9th at Covington High School to finish out their regular season. Junior-varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m.
