Editor, The News-Gazette: What has happened to the Grand Old Party?

They used to campaign on policy proposals that supported our Constitution, upheld freedoms, touted our military, espoused family values and were staunch supporters of law and order.

What we see today is a group of overpaid sycophants that are more concerned in keeping their political power than being public servants. There are no ideas of substance and all energy and money are spent on pervading lies, degrading our legal system and paying the legal fees of a convicted felon.

And Ben Cline is all in on the Republican playbook. He doesn’t support aid to Ukraine or NATO which are major national security issues and voted against the immigration bill that most citizens have said was a high priority. As of the 2022 Congressional ratings, Ben Cline rated at 0% as compared to the Virginia delegation. That tells us that he is not representing us effectively and is certainly not earning his $174,000 per year (plus benefits and expenses) salary that he is being paid.

It might be time for someone that is willing to bring some fresh ideas and not be a yes man to Congress. It is time for a change. LAUREN SUMMERS Vesuvius
